Pat is a realist that prefers to fight what he considers a threat to his way of life rather than sit back and wait for something to happen. He realizes that the generation that thought they could change the world actually did; but we messed things up rather than make improvements. It's up to the next generation to learn from out mistakes if they value their way of life and freedom.
